What cichlid for my 500g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya the current stock is basically going to be gone before they go in except my ray. So I've read about dovii and umbee both, everything says have a big tank and blah blah blah... Will they attack my ray? Will they be more likely to attack my ray if it is a pair? Can I just get 2 males or will they kill each other even in my big tank?

I dont think a pairof dovii would work they will eventually kill your ray, if you put a small and younge dovii, you might get away with it ashe will grow up with the ray. THere is a LFS in my area and he has a 300g with about 12 red devilmidas with a big 18 inch dovii in there lol. Soanything is possible.

Peacock bass are awsome, they get big very fast and are pure predators with great personality. My 14 inch pbass soaks my floor every time i feed him, and his colors are phenominal.

Why not Red Bay Snook.

Green Snook, Bocourti, WC Oscar are a few that will get large but will most likely show little to no aggression to your rays. Umbee and Dovii are great cichlids but I'm not sure how they will work with your other fish. In a 500 gallon you have a lot of choices. You just have to find the proper mix.

Dammmm hokiefish thats a really nice trimac!! Where did you get him?
He was actually my Flower horn. Passed unexpectedly almost a week ago. Still now sure why. Rest of the tank is great.

I'm wondering if my gt when he gets bigger? Idk raps said the same thing that dovii wouldn't be safe idea... What are snook? I want one huge show fish preferably ca/sa but idk. Don't like Nile perch get huge?

if you want one huge fish, look at the different peacock bass.snooks get big also,i think they would look good in there, they are mellow for a large growing species

I would do a "school" of peacock bass, I think that'd be a heck of a tank to watch. If you're dead set on something else, I'd look into black belts (I've seen some HUGE ones here), definitely snooks (males can get to 20" potentially), I'm surprised nobody has mentioned an arrowana, since a 500 would be amazing for either a silver or black arrow. Just something to think about.
