What cichlids can be breed in a 55 gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For CAs, just about any Thorichthys or Cryptoheros, Heterospila multispinosa, Neetroplus nematopus, Archocentrus centrachus, Hypsophrys nicaraguensis, Tomocichla sieboldii... All of those would do well in a 55 for quite some time.
For SAs, there's a multitude of things that would work... everything from Apistogramma to dwarf Crenicichla to Gymnogeophagus.
And lots of West Africans and Tanganyikans (not my fortay).

Pretty sure there aren't any others than the ones you stated. I'm interested in the answer as well if there is one

There's a whole world of cichlids out there that petsmart doesn't carry! :) It's too bad it can be a little difficult for someone new to them to find good information. I suggest anyone interested in Cichlids check out the Cichlid Room Companion (google it) and consider paying for a membership (cheap).

Obtaining info isnt a problem . I have a book called the 101 best tropical fishes and it has on alot of dwarf cichlids that will fit perfect but are rarely seen . If that book doesnt help I can always find another resource. I would like a medium sized fish like a firemouth or gt pair. I like my fish to be big . I mean this is mfk.

so you're looking for new world cichlids? or did you even look at africans? especially lake Tanganyikan cichlids. Many of them tend to form colonies which is awesome to watch. They do tend to be on the smaller side though, but it's cool to watch them do this... just another option... look it up :)

No need to feel like an idiot . Its a good opinion. I like africans and how they form communities but I personaly like new worlds more.
