Firemouth, convict, rainbow

I kind of want a centerpiece fish or a nice pair. I am considering a single medium - large cichlid that would be too territorial for tankmates in that size tank.

actually u can do a solo fish of almost any fish excluding a few. or a decent pair. If you break the lines of sight enough and give the female some safe spots. You can keep a pair for sure.

A good center piece a salvini would work. If you want a pair angels, convicts, firemouth, and rainbows could work. Anything else might need a bigger tank in the long run.

Discus or angels would look nice in that tank. You could do an Oscar, Midas, RD, GT, JD, Mota, etc pair as well. They'll be find in that footprint honestly, no need to limit yourself to a 6" fish. Would look cool with a column of dither fish swimming around as well.

I beg to differ. Did you make this post to start a debate?
