what cichlids for a 20 long?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah. I have breeding pair in a twenty, I wish it was LONG though. Males could get pretty darn big, that's why I said two females should be fine. Then you don't have to deal with breeding.

ya one male would be sweet, just grow it out and get that hump on its head!

I had my 4 inch convict in my 10 gallon for about a month, and he was fine. I just put him back down into the 75, and his juvenile african cichlid misses him in the 10, he is pushing the rocks around all by himself.

Just don't get a fish that wants to fight the convict because they won't back down, and the otehr fish my get hurt. Dithers like barbs would actually probably work.

if you want something more peaceful go for BOLIVIAN rams. MUCH hardier than the blue german ones. German rams are harder to keep than discus IMO. Almost any hardness at all and they go belly up.

The bolivian ones are the opposite though. My water is about 7.8 and they do great.

Thats my answer, I will be keeping a pair in a 30, but I have been told by many that a 20L in fine. Right now I have a HRP Pair working well in my 20L and They look great and it has been zipless!

what kind of habitat do cons need?
what substrate?
anything else they need?
as long as they have somewhere to hide if they get scared they should be fine.

here is a pic of my 29g con tank. they seem to enjoy this setup just fine. btw i had this exact setup in a 20L before i upgraded to the 29g. the only thing i added was a tall plant.

well all convicts like to have a cave or somewhere to hide as you can see in post #26 how i have three rocks piled up for a little cave and how at2has a flower pot and and other rock structures to hide in in the post above

as for substrate im not sure what they prefer between gravel or sand

you should also provide plants for more coverage
