What Caribbean, South and central American cichlids have the biggest teeth? Just out of curiousity. Are anyy of them able to rip apart meat like piranhas?

dovii get the biggest teeth but no comparison to a pirahna. if a pirahna had the temperment that rds dovii have they would always be a single tank specimen.

they will rip but not dismantle prey like a P. Whole different teeth. Dovii's are more like dogs not designed to cut but more to rip.

first off it would take way longer to grow your dovii to a size to where it could actually use those teeth to rip but still prefer to swallow there food whole. while ps can rip apart meat at any size. i had a group of 14 caribe pirahna awile back and it was cool to watch them eat but made the tank messy and got old after awile because there skittish and have no personality. i dont know if your just asking a question or trying to decide on what you want. if you want ps then you want a shoal of 10 or more as they are not as skittish in a large group. if you want personality then you want the rd or dovii you mention but then you wouldnt have the number of fish.

My male Dempsey's have some pretty nasty looking chompers on em. But I'm sure my Jag will wind up with bigger teeth. While we're talking about fish with big teeth, how about a real wolf fish?

The Parachromis species has the most impressive set of teeth and no, there is no comparison between Cichlids and any large toothed Charciforms. The Piranha's closest comparison is with a much smaller fish - Exodons, the Bucktoothed Tetra.
