What cichlids work well with Bichirs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ah I misunderstood what you were growing out. Well If you are going to be upgrading to a 180, you could put pretty much any cichlid you want in. I think a festae would work fine. If it were me, I would avoid the dovii or umbee and do like one 10-14" max sized cichlid and 2-3 5-8" ones. Viejas, perhaps a tetracanthus, texas, festae, whatever you like really for the big one. Cryptoheros, thoricthys, etc for smaller ones. With the Bichirs being large already, I doubt any cichlid would bother them much. just my .02

I dont know of any cichlids that hate bichers. They always get along great in my experience. No competition to each other

My Polleni rarely goes to the bottom of the tank, I can't recommend them enough.

Kept a dempsey with my polys for years in my 125g till he passed. Right now I have a Geophagus and electric blue acara in there. Will evetually be a pair of chocolates a trio of acara and 6 elliots. with my 4 polys.

As others have said not many cichlids will have issues with a larger poly and if they try one slap of the tail spines ends the discussion... least it did with my dempsey he healed and learned.
