My Dad called me and said his one of his prized Discus has developed a "Slime Goggle" on one of it's eyes!!! He has moved it to a hospital tank and added salt and pimafix. I've been looking online and can't really find anything. I don't think it's pop-eye, because he said the socket doesn't look swollen. He says it just looks like a bubble of clear slime over the eye and part of the face. He is very worried...

WHAT DO YOU THINK??

First, let me say that I have never owned discus. However, I seem to recall that discus possess the ability to increase their slime coat production (mucin discharge) on demand, specifically to feed their fry. Given this capability, there may not be a problem, other than, perhaps, a superficial irritant.

His water conditions are pristine....he is retired so has time for the many many water changes it takes to keep nice discus. I would doubt that was the issue. I would wonder if it was a fungus or some side effect of an infection or irritation of the eye.
I will see if I can get him to get a photo of the affected area..
