first let me start by saying that i did search before posting this, but mainly came up with 3D backgrounds and thats not what i'm looking for. anyway here is my problem. i have a cichlid tank with one of the fake store bought backgrounds with the plants and wood on it. well my wife has been complaining for awhile that she hates how dark the fish (female JD and a chocolate cichlid) are because she has a hard time seeing them. so i'm trying to figure out what would be a good color to put on it. i have pool filter sand on bottom, with driftwood and a couple fake plants in the tank. anyone have any suggestions? a couple pics to support your suggestion would be great so i can show her the difference. thanks everyone

I personally like the plain blue. I also have pool sand as my substrate. It shouldn't cost too much so play around with a few and see which one you like most.

I don't have any pics right now but I like black backgrounds on my tanks. The fish really stand out against it. Bright lighting can also wash out the colors of fish, even with a dark background. So you may have to adjust your lighting, background, and substrate if your fish don't show in the way that you would like. 3D backgrounds are awesome but they can also be expensive. I still would love to have one on a large tank some day.

Black backgrounds look good and contrast well with fish colors. Maybe you need a different light if you can't see the fish well.

I have black on all my tanks, and it looks great. Even though I love the black my next tank will probably be a 3d, if not I'll probably try a midnight blue.

Mine's deep blue.
