What could have happened

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm keeping a close eye on them. They all should be well feed. This damage also happend over night I rarely turn off all my light but that night I did and when I cam in the next morning the iridescent sharks was how he is in the pics. In the end its my fault for putting him in the wrong tank set up. On another note It's still swimming normal and eating. Is it possible for it to pull through? Or am I just making it suffer?

Unless your leporinus are mighty hungry, they would not be my first guess. I'd guess red devil for sure. Only because I've never had green terrors.

My guess about the furniture is a very distant second. I believe this fish has been bitten up specifically on the sides of the head severely, repeatedly, for a long time.

I've never had or heard iridescent shark bully any tank mate, so if you are sure, this'd be a first for me.
Also the iridescent shark wasn't really bullying the lima by attacking it more so just not leaveing it alone and it ate all the food before the 2 lima had a chance. When I got the iridescent it was extremely skinny for its size.

After a week I was not seeing any real recovery, it also stopped eating. I decided to euthanize with clove oil. Thank yall for all your help.

I did have another aggression outburst but from a different fish diffrent tank same species though (white saum). (40gal tank) I had a male white saum being very peaceful untill about a week ago he decided after feeding he was done with the jack, convict, bichir, 2 sevrums. He killed the convict within a few seconds. (I was looking for a net) he had already had the jack and sevrums fin nipped and rub marks at the eyes on all ove them. The bichir was fine. I moved him with my large parrot cichlids and small TSN under 5inches this tank is a 60 gal cube so I thought a bit more room new place should stop the aggression i was wrong He immediately attacked evryone even while i was trying to catch him he made attempts on the other fish. He is now in with the bigger guys and doing ok. He is only 4 inches while his soon to be GF is 8 inches I mistakenly miss ID her as a green terror before. This leads me to believe she was probably the one who attacked the iridescent shark to begin with.

Interesting detective story.

Isn't white saum just a morph of green terror?

Yes, depending on who you follow, Two different species of the same fish.
Green terror - Andinoacara rivulatus
White Saum - Andinoacara stalsbergi
Or
Just colour morphs of the same thing.
A bit like their temperament, devil or angel.

There's seems to be a big debate on thatI guess it depends. I was told thick white edges on the fin is white saum, thin white edges are green terror and orange edge is gold saum. Beautiful fish definitely getting there own 100 gallon for breeding.
