Hey everyone, I love my Oscar but he likes to hang out at the bottom of the tank all the time and ends up tangling with the Goby sometimes. I'm interested in seeing what else I could put in the tank honestly.... I have seen fish in the LFS that are always at the top of the tank and I think that would be perfect. I am thinking of trading him for something more oddballish, which would be nice with the Marbled Goby and all.

What are some fish with these requirements?:

max length 15 - 20 inches long

relatively non aggressive (I don't want my Goby to get killed lol)

Preferably something that stays at the top of the tank (less interaction with the Goby at the bottom)

and last but not least.. something uncommon. I am looking for an oddball :)

If anybody could suggest some fish that meet most or all of those criteria I'd greatly appreciate it, Thanks!

what size tank?

36x18x24, I am upgrading to a 100 or 125 soon (whatever I think my floor can hold :) ) so the tank will be bigger length wise soon. I'm thinking of getting a 20 inch tall tank instead of 24 inch to try and make up for the extra length. Then, I will upgrade again when needed.

i have a marble goby in with an ornate and ausie aro he doesnt seem to bother them also have a dragon goby

Damn! Aros are cool too :(

Some type of Gar? stay's at the top and is highly armored so it can take a hit from the Goby sometimes.. but what species of Gar stays about 15 - 18 inches?

Maybe a small gar, do you have enough hiding places in your tank?

No but that is because the Oscar is big and I wanted him to have more open space, there is a plant in the corner he hides in but that's it besides a big piece of flatstone for the Goby.

If I get anything small I'll probably just grow it out to a good size (in a different tank) before I try to cohab it with my Goby.

Well now that I see your tank dimensions, maybe look into the flowerhorns or green terrors, they dont get massive and should get along with a large goby, but maybe ask someone who knows more about cichlids.
