I haven't built this tank, but im kinda weighing my options. The tank is going to be 23"x26" and probably 36" high. I want a tank that you don't see every day. I havn't decided on freshwater/saltwater. I would also like it to be more of a 1 or 2 large fish as aposed to a lot of small fish. Also, i want something that can live its entirety in the tank

So what would be some good options?

Nothing to big, it might be 90g but still only 2'x2,'6 or 7" max. You can plant the heck out of it and do angels.

Really if your footprint was 36x24 with whatever height you choose, it would still be an odd size tank but that would allow a lot more possibilities.

Its going inside an existing closet and going to to be trimmed out like a cabinet kinda for this sort of effect

so it has to fit inside the coat closet. 3' high might be a little excessive in height, so i might go like 30". That would be about 80 gallons, but only fit fish that would fit in a 55 gallon tank. So out of the ordinary fish could i do?

here is a picture of the waste of space that is my man cave closet. Perfect spot for an aquarium, i say

Yea height and actual gallons aren't near as import as the footprint of the tank. I honestly don't know much about smaller fish, but I'm guessing some dwarf rams or some sort of schooling tetra?

im no expert but i would think something bigger than a tetra can fit in a 60 gallon tank

i was thinking maybe a couple of pirahnas or an oscar. Or even bluegill or some other panfish. I was hoping to find something a little less common though. Like an eel or something

Not with the footprint. They need the length and width to move. You are talking about fish that will grow to a foot or more. You could have 1,000 gallons, and if the tank were no longer than 24" ,and no wider than 26" ,you would still have the same limitations. With that foot print, you need to be thinking of fish that can be housed in a 29 gallon for life.
