What could I stock

So thats like a 45 (US) Gallon? When keeping most CA/SA Cichlids the problem is the length and width of the aquarium. I would pick something that doesn't get too big and keep the water in great condition. This will allow it to thrive. You could do a Salvini, Severum, or Convict. Personally, I would advise doing something like a pair of Angelfish, Discus, or Convicts in an aquarium with those dimensions.

do convicts make good wet pets?

i think a salvini would be kind boring. theyre not the most out going fish.

Convicts are cool. They have all the personality, all the odd behavior, breed easily, fight and push and shove, everything. And I've seen mature convicts that look really good in the tank. I think you can learn everything you need to know about CA/SA cichlids watching convicts in a small/med tank. They're very underrated fish. Ya sure you can't get a 75 Gallon, though? Look at Sajica's. Look at Spilurum--look alot like convicts actually. Or Nosferatu Labridens. Or Nosferatu Bartoni. Or multispinosa/Rainbow Cichlids. All very interesting smaller fish -- but still cichlids.

Personally I'd go for west African like a jewel or krib. If it were larger like a 55 or 75 I'd recommend a single Midas or maybe a green terror

Pair of firemouths, cons, or Honduran red point with out question IMO. Some of my favorite fish big attitude in a small package. You could even put a few tetras or barbs for dithers.

So I'm looking at fish in the 6-7" range? Anyone got a more exotic species? Or one that's not your common convict or firemouth.
