What defines a Fish keeper?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yup! I may not be a fish keeper, but I'm a water changer. I also have some big fish, but I am not a monster fish keeper. By definition, I don't have the passion according to another thread on MFK, so I am not a monster fish keeper either. I have big fish and big tanks, but all I am is a water changer, nothing more. I will never rate fish keeper status. Oh well...
Well...fishkeepers change water and you certainly have massive amounts of gallons to change so you are truly a fishkeeper in my unwanted opinion. You are one of the few active fishkeepers on here with a truly monster tank and when it comes to having "passion" for what we do,you epitomize the term.

I mean, by the name alone, I'm going to simply go with somebody who keeps fish. Why make it more complicated than that?

Perhaps we should use breeding to define Fish Hobbyists rather than Fish keepers? Although even then breeding isn't a prerequisite for hobbyists. Maybe we should only use that to define fish breeders.

I suspect that this discussion is an offshoot or a piggyback of comments that were made in that other thread.

Did not know this was a reference to another thread... woops

It's a few threads down the page, titled "Thought I'd share this one for all to see!"
Oh ya, that one is pretty cool. I don't really think that was an arguement every one was just trying to decide if he cleaned the tank or not

No,not an argument but a few posters raised the issue of whether or not the guy is a real fishkeeper.

Cleaning a tank and changing the water is also not a prerequisite to be a fish keeper. There is a member with a 50,000 tank and other big tanks. I don't think he physically cleans his tank. He is in a wheelchair, but that didn't stop him from having his tank built. He is more of a fish keeper than the majority of us will ever be.
