I'm soon going to be getting a gold severum, firemouth, and convict for a 55 gallon aquarium. All I'd like to know is what dither fish would be best to put in with those 3?

I don't want to stop there, though. What do you think are the best dither fish? What are your favorites? I'd really like to know :)

For your setup I would do Serpae, Colombian, or buenos aires tetras. I know a lot of people hate them but I like giant danios because of they're brainless, erratic activity.

I love my tiger barbs... I have 6 regular tiger barbs and 2 green tiger barbs. They all shoal/school as if they're 100% the same. I've even seen one of the greens do a mating dance with a tiger, it was pretty neat.

They eat everything, scavenge the substrate for me, stay active but not off the walls crazy and haven't been bothering any of my other fish at all.

On the other hand...I haven't really had any other dither fish, so I got nothing to compare them to:p I had to get something ballsy enough to stand up to a jack dempsey, large & fast enough to not get eaten by two bichirs and passive enough to not bother the bichirs at the same time....Tiger barbs were the only conclusion I could come to.

i would say swordtails/platys/mollys. since i think they come from the same area ( either south america or central. ) but i would do 5 swordtails ( 1 male 4 females ) 5 mollys ( again same ratio 1 male 4 females ) plus they will drop frys each month for your sev/firemouth/and con.

he is not starting a breeding project, I would also go with Giant Danios.
