So it looks like it's either giant danios, tiger barbs, or some neon tetras. I'll probaby end up going with the tiger barbs, but I'm still close to switching to the giant danios. Only time will tell.

the last time i went into a petco, i saw 2" silver dollars with their fins nipped,

nah i returned them... id have liked to just get them healthy but they were going to be the first fish added to my newly cycled tank and i didnt really want to spread ich into that tank before it even had a chance, i ended up moving my opaline gourami in to the bigger tank and getting a trio of giant danios instead
Good choice on the giant danios. I have a very similar setup (Severum, Geopahgus, leopard pleco, x3 giant danios). They are always active!
yeah that's my favorite part about them, they never stop moving. since the feature fish of teh tank are bichirs and an ABK it's good to have some good speedy fish around the top (at least till the bichirs get big and decide it's snack time)
