What do do with a 30g?

Hmm...maybe I won't do that. I'll go to the lfs today and check out what they have. Maybe I'll get a pair of Pictus or something. Would there be an aggression issue with Pictus and say, a Firemouth or a Convict? I kinda want some kind of Cichlid in the mix...
 
A firemouth and 7-8 Giant Danios. Or just 15 or so Giant Danios. They are a lot of fun to watch eat when they're in decent sized groups.

It definitely wouldn't be one of those tanks that you need to stare at for a couple minutes just to see the fish. ;)
 
Hmm, I thought about Giant Danios for a good long while, because they are basically mini-Tinfoil Barbs (I really like Tonfoil Barbs, lol) but I kinda wanna include my interest in Catfish into this tank...
I know someone who has some Convicts to unload, and I was considering taking in one of them, as long as it wouldn't nip the whiskers on the Pictus Catfish... what do you guys think?
 
I liken Giant Danios more to exodons - except you can keep them with other fish. No joke. You don't feed these guys for a day, and then drop in some food, they go NUTS.


Anyway, that's of course just what i'd consider.


I'd say you may have some issues if want to have more than one bottom dweller with a convict. They like their space. Catfish like to invade space, so...
 
Hmm. Alright, no Convict. Wouldn't the Pictus eat the Danios if the size difference was enough?
And what about a Ram or two?
Keep in mind it's a well-filtered tank, and I could amp up the filtration if need be.
 
No, a pictus should be fine with GDs. The latter being top-dwellers.


You could always set up a SA dwarf cichlid tank (rams of course being one of them). They can look amazing. :D

If you have good filteration, 3-4 dwarf species and your pleco should be fine together, I'd think.

Pictus Catfish x2
Clown Pleco
Giant Danio (5-6) maybe
Any ohter ideas?
