What Do I Feed My Fish??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll bite. This fish eats solely Massivore(6-9 pellets per day). Has grown 6" since May 30th. Do not want to share where he came from(personal reason don't ask lol).

Jeez... That fish is nice but you gotta tone down the photo editing. Hurts my eyes. Or is it just the dark lighting in the tank?

It is the way I take pictures. I use overhead flash and set up my camera as such to where the background is pretty much not there. There is very minimal editing on the photo just sharpened the image a bit. Thanks for the kind of nice comment with the traditional slam afterwords...much appreciated.

No problem bro. I think it's a nice fish.

Im gonna go with strictly nls

NLS is correct, but not strictly. Throughout the week, they get 75% Hikari Discus Bio-Gold and 25% NLS. They have been on this regiment for the past 2.5 months. The 2 months before that, which was when I first got them, they were on 50% NLS and 50% Xtreme.

I have heard a few people using the Hikari Discus Bio-Gold for their CA/SA's and have had good results, so I gave it a shot. I didnt see a huge difference in the switch, but I have noticed a significant one - both in growth and coloration.

Don't mean to derail your food thread, but how big is your dovii & what substrate is that? Very nice fish btw.

I think it's going to be hard to compare growth with discus bio gold to regular NLS. A higher fat, higher protein food like that discus formula will likely put on faster growth. NLS makes a 2mm coral food now that has around the same protein and fat as discus bio gold BTW. Also, I'm a bit wary of the primary protein source of the discus bio gold, it's a byproduct of the silk industry.
I think people are a little too eager to get the fastest growth possible out of their fish. I see a lot of big colorful cichlids out there, but around the forum lately some seem to be dying prematurely and you will sometimes see possible signs of nutritional deficiency (cases of HITH that may or may not be diet related, curved spines/drop tail, etc.).
