I just took a look at some cheap meats in my local food store:grinno: and came up with:

Pork liver
Beef liver
Beef heart

Im sure there are lots of other cheap meats out there as well. Im just wondering what I should feed them to keep a balanced diet. To much of one thing is probably bad right?

What do you guys feed your larger fish?

Nooooooo.....not mammal meat. Oscars need crustaceans and greens (they're omnivores, not carnivores, remember). Go over to the dept that has shrimp, grab some of that and then get some insects they sell in cans at the petstore for lizards, then to to the Walmart fishing dept and snatch up a few containers of earhtworms. Don't forget a can of peas and some zucchini on your way out. That'd be one happy well-fed Oscar.

TwistedPenguin has it right. I feed mine frozen bloodworms (even at his large size), pellets, krill, garden earthworms, shrimp, fish fillet, peas (de-shelled), zucchini, and lettuce (for roughage).

I've rased Oscars for 17 years. They love beef heart but only give it as a treat. I feed mine flake, pellets, frozen brine, dried shrimp, frozen blood worms and occasionally feeder minnows and live ghost shrimp.

I haven't tried ghostshrimp yet but I forgot to mention some lean poultry. My Oscar gets a piece once every 2 weeks as as treat. :naughty:

Never tried that. Cooked? I have in the past given mine all kindfs of insects and even pinky mice.

C'mon, guys :-) You know that stuff isn't made for nor good for Oscars. That gives others ideas that it's 'ok' to feed that stuff. If we want the best health for our Oscars we need to leave the chicken, mice and beef for our dogs or ourselves lol
