I have had a male and a female convict for about a month now. They are in a 28 gallon bowfront with just a small clown pleco. The male is about 4 inches, and the female is maybe 2.5 inches. They get along. They dug out a cave where they have much privacy, and they hang out in there together a lot. No fry yet though! What are they waiting for? Do I need patience or a different male?

Patience.

Since the convicts are wet, they're gonna breed. Just give it abit longer. I'd say within 2 weeks you'll have something.

It just takes time, they might not get it right the first time but when they do they won't stop. Patience!! It will happen.

This will work sometimes, feed 4-5 times a day for a couple days with frozen brineshrimp & blood worms. Then do a large (50%) water change. often this will get them to spawn.

patience. theyll do it eventually.
if u want to help in the process, try uping the temp to 29degrees and do some cold water changes and feed alot of live or frozen bloodworms. :) gl!

My recomendation would be to take out the clown loach as he is a bottom scavenger and may be allready eating the eggs they have laid. Ive bred convicts in 10 gallon tanks before and i think the close quarters actually helps them to spawn. Might be worth a shot droping them in a 10 gal all by thermselves and see what happens then

I wouldnt be so sure, I have 3 3" BN plecs in a 35G with 2.5 cons and they havent eaten the eggs in over 3 spawns. Even at night, nothings gone.

There is no clown loach, perhaps you meant the pleco. I have never had a pleco eat eggs, and have had thenm with many convict and firmouth spawnings. I can't see any reason to move them to a 10 gallon. If you moved them into that small tank the 4" male could destory the smaller female.
