What do judges look for in show grade trimacs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
for me, I want nice big strong straight tail with red or shine on it or all fins. Body should be straight. Good quality red at the throat, good yellow/green on the body.. I like the big spot in the middle of the body, at the tail, and at the head, and less or none everywhere else.. Just 3 spots(according to my taste)

A bump in front of the face like 95% of adult Trimacs I've seen anywhere are disqualifications for me.. I just hate that and it makes the fish ugly.. But since most Trimacs have that when they get bigger maybe Judges want that as a standard??? I hate that bump in the front of the face!!

Most important of all for me is proportion/balance through out the fish first, and no bump in the front of the face.

A trimac without a nuchal hump? I guess you will never be a judge. LOL!

nuchal hump is a plus..

But I dont think u know what im talking about when I said bump in front of the face..

between the eyes/ in front. Not the head

The largest score goes to the size of the fish. If your entry is not an adult fish you will have a poor chance of winning, so size accounts for nearly 50% of the points. Next are the basic features: Are the eye's symetrical?, Any crooked rays on the fins?, body shape correct for the fish, color and even demeaner of the fish. If you are entering into a show, make sure your tank is also presentable. Wipe away all algae and clean water spots on the glass! Use a diatom filter the morning of the show to make the water sparkle. Here's a trick i learned when I used to compete. I would attach a mirror to the back of a clipboard and tease my fish and get them all provoked so when the time came, the judges would have their clip boards in hand in front of the tank and my fish would go nuts displaying and flaring for them. lol

here are a few picks of my male trimac who is actually forsale!!! your's is very nice thou!!!

In that case its best if you show pics from 2012

I know what you're talking about...but its irrelevant because thats a defect that happens to all fish, not just to the OP's type of fish.

............................

I think your fish looks good, a few things could help him color up though. Since I have no idea what you've done for him or how long after you got from Jeff that you took that vid...perhaps put a mirror on the tank since he has no friends.

I believe Dookie has all your answers...if you want more REAL answers then PM him.
