what do people say?

I'm just wondering what people say when you tell them that you keep Herps? I get so many strange looks.

Do people understand why you keep them?

Um just wondering if its just me or if this is a general thing. Not many people understand why I keep them. This goes for my parents, friends, girlfriend and so on.
 
Depends. I don't say "I keep herps" literally. 85% of the population has no idea what that means. You have to say it like you are speaking to a kindergartner. "I keep reptiles". Most people just think its cool.
 
Most people I tell can't wait to see them. My brothers girlfriend is obsessed with my bearded dragons. Some people don't like the snakes, but they are still curious enough to touch them.
 
I always call them reptiles or lizards. But people still give me weird looks.

When I tell them I have a 5 foor iguana I get a ton of weird looks. People where I work just can't grasp the concept of keeps reptiles lol

My girlfriend loves the bearded dragon I have at my parents house. But everything else she isn't fond of. She really doesn't like the rhino iguana lol.
 
My gf was nervous when i first told her now she has a pair of corns and planning tio get snakes :)
 
some people want to see them and want to know about them , other give me the "you disgust me" look and other dont care or dont understand
 
I usually get pretty positive responses from most people I talk to. Folks that know me realize that I've been keeping various reptiles since I was 7 years old so it's nothing new to them. My parents still think it's funny that I'm in to reptiles. They thought I'd grow out of it once I got older, HA!

Sometimes I bring the geckos I ship to work with me and my coworkers are always fascinated with seeing and holding them. The one lady I work with was scared to death of them and after 5 minutes of me explaining to her about how harmless they were she decided to pet one. She came back to talk to me 15 minutes later and said I should put a setup together and keep one in the office. Like a mascot or something, lol.
 
Yeah I blame my parents for getting me into them. They still don't understand it.

Another thing I get looks on is when people ask me how much they cost. Sometimes I hate saying how much I paid.
