ive had experience with many different herps and I will NEVER be an expert on all herps, but there is things that im VERY knowledgeable about. i would consider myself an expert about turtles. but not an expert with something like boas or dart frogs. i think that it all depends on who your comparing yourself to. if you comparing your self to the average joe, then yes, im an expert about all herps. but if i compare myself to some people on this site, then NO, im not such an expert anymore.

I think you're breaking the unwritten rule of if you consider yourself an expert you probably aren't. Out of curiosity, what makes you a turtle expert?

I think you are breaking the unwritten rule that if you write an unwritten rule it is no longer unwritten.
:banhim:

But I agree, Turtlesrock, I am sure that you know a lot about a few turtles and how to keep them as pets etc.. but unless you can name each one of the scutes and tell me where they go, and can explain how turtles breath, the chemicals used in digestion, and all sorts of other stuff then you are not an expert.

lol. everyone on this site underestimates me. snakeguy, i do know much more than you are implying in your post, i can tell you those things. but as i said in my original post, if i compare my self to some people, like you, on this site, then i wouldn't consider myself an expert. i would consider myself VERY knowledgeable about herps though. i don't see y most people on this site have to underestimate and doubt what i know.

If you always feel that people under estimate you then they always will....
I was in that position not to long ago. So confident in my abilities that it annoyed me that people always took me for granted...
You should be confident in yourself and what you know, but never stop learning, don't take it as a personal insult when people under estimate you, it will happen for the rest of your life. Learn from others say and teach them as well. It is a never ending cycle.....

So on topic... I think an experienced keeper is someone who doesn't believe they are an expert. Someone who takes the time to thoroughly research the animals they have or want and don't STOP researching after they have that animal. Of course they must be responsible to... it wouldn't really help to know everything in the world about herps but never take the time to clean and feed your own animals....
An experienced keeper has worked with a variety of animals but doesn't necessarily keep all of them. I believe they SHOULD have basic knowledge about most things and excessive knowledge about specific things... although I believe that to be true about people in general...everyone should know at least a little something about everything...

maybe because i dunno ur 12?
