First thing I thought when I saw this thread was...Stay inside till it quits raining.
...seemed simple.
If the sides of the pond are built up so water doesn't run into the pond and you have a properly screened overflow (check local laws on where you can drain pond (that contain fish) water to) and the rain water isn't acidic then Camshaft Ramrod got it right on.
After a good long rain is the time to clean the pond too, as the vibration of the rain drops help settle the detritus in the water.
If you decide on a pool later on at least you have half the hole dug

. It sucks. Granted if I had koi it would be a zero issue and my fire mouths and jewel cichlids arent touched as have screens over pond but the guppies are reduced by 50% in last 2 months nothing I can do as cant put net over pond due to lots high growing cattail plants .
