What do you do with your fry?

I only had 2 fish a male and a female cichlid and after having them 4 about 6 months BOOM, little fry all over and sense then iv been having algea problems and they are so hungry i have 2 feed 2 times a day and nothing is wasted, i tryed 2 catch them but had the worst time i had 2 empty the tank till there was only 5 inches of water left and i still had trouble, best idea is you want fry have a tank setup 4 them but if not be prepared 2 handle the demands of all those fish in one tank.

Get a Dino Bichir. I have one in my mixed cichlid tank. He "helps" to keep the fry population down; but there's always the few survivors.

If they reach 1-2 inches in length; put em up for adoption on craigslist for a few dollars. I always get takers that want to buy them.

Good luck !:headbang2

I sell my cyps fry to my local fish store for credit. My feathefins he will buy because of the way the adults look and the high demand and low availabilty of these fish.

Remember everyone he is asking about hybrid fry. I would never sell hybrids (africans). There are too many already out there, passing them on to unknowing fish keepers is wrong. So what if they do not know any better. Those fish could eventually end up back with someone else who doesn't know better and says they are something else. It is a real problem. I use them as feeders or I keep a spare tank on hand and toss all of them in it. Let them live it out for a while. You can also always get a small turtle and feed them to it. I hope this helps, but seriously be responsible.

This statement does not reflect the over all opinion on hybrids in the hobby. Flowerhorns and other man made fish create with purpose are not included in this rant on hybrids. They are really good at keeping the fry population down. I'm glad because my white top haras breed like rabbits.

I'd kill to have even 10 from that batch.
Hara's are hard to come by in Hawaii.

When I see a female holding I catch her strip her clutch and either turn around and feed them back to the others or I feed the eggs to my south americans

i get enough fry from my green terrors each month, i just sell them.

Ouch. They are pretty common around here. Very nice looking fish.

I totally agree. This is a huge problem with african cichlids. Whatever you do do not sell them. I think it's best to not even give them away. Just keep them to yourself. You never know what the other person might do with them, even if they know they are hybrids.

Like I said before, I'd never sell them. If someone has an existing tank and knows that they are hybrids and just wants them because they look cool, then I'd still be reluctant giving them away. Once I get the Synos in there, I shouldn't have to worry about them any more :)
