what do you feed you aro ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
rob.. hi.. could you please post pics of your setup.. first things first.. give the aro sometime to get used to the new environment.. a few days perhaps.. make sure the parameters are all to the mark.. the water temp is maintained at about 22 C and the water is oxygenated well.. if you have a power head switch it off.. keep a night lamp on around the aquarium at nights.. and switch off the tank top/hood light..

my recommendation is to start pellet training a little later.. i've started as late as 16" on one of my aros.. but about 8" should be right.. but having started i'd suggest you stick to tilapia and the floating pellets.. tilapia in small bite sized chunks will be perfect.. the aro will eat in a few days.. if not.. then try small crickets.. that will usually work.. cheers.. all the best..

i have the water temp set on both heaters at about 85 in the tank, and the water is VERY well oxygenated, and yes i have a few power heads in there to help wih circulation there running about 295gph, and we keep a light on around the tank during the night here... water parametres are all in check as well i dont like when they get outta hand for my tanks...but ya i figured he be a good size to try pellets on, but he takes tilapia very easily now i toss it in and he will eat it he even takes it from others in the tank if it isnt in there mouth haha,

I feed my 7" and 8" silver aros with live feeder fish that looks like small guppies. I have them in the tank all the time, so i just let them eat as they like.

Thats great.. so what other tank mates does your aro have.. the reason i suggested switching off the power heads was, aros are generally from calmer waters.. so there might be too much surface turbulence..

well there was alot of surface aggitation in the video as the spray bar was turned up a bit to create more surface movement ... i turned it down a bit there isnt as much surface turbulence now, and the power heads are mostly in there to blow against the front of the tank to move any dirt/poop and etc to back of the tank to be blown into the intakes of my filters....and right now i have 1/3rd of the tank sectioned off for a small peacock bass (he could very easily become someone snack) but on the side with the aro i have 1 gold severum, 1 tiger oscar (7"), 1 albino oscar (10"), 1 black ghost knife (8"), tailspot ctnepoma (4" trying to sell him now) 1 chinese algea eater (3"), and 1 spiky common pleco (7") i fed some talipia in there and the tiger had it in his mouth and the aro swam up to him and saw some sticking outta his mouth and took it form him lol, no one bothers him at all, and he dont bother anyone as of yet, i do keep a very close eye on them, he is also starting to venture off in some spot in the tank checking things out but he does have a favourite spot he hangs out alot lol right near the divider where the peacock bass is lol..
