So I've had mine for almost 9 months. Strangely for the last two months my ebjd doesn't always want to eat the nls pellets I've been feeding him this whole time. Aside from that he will happily eat the frozen bloodworms I supplement his diet with. He eats maybe two pellets and is then no longer interested in eating. Has anyone had this problem.before and what can I do? Also what other foods do you supplement your new world cichlids diets with? And I'm worried he's not growing anymore

Also hear are tank parameters
Tank is 36"x13"x21"
Gh 120
Kh 80
Ph 7.5
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20 ppm
Ammonia 0-0.25 ( the color is in between those two so I'm just assuming )

I don't have an ebjd atm but when I had one its all based on mood swing. Primarily it was shrimp pellets and chichlid pellets. Then for a month nothing excpet frozen blood worms. Then back to pellets and for sometime only smaller chunks of fish and market prawns.

This is a common problem not just for EBJD but Jack Dempseys in general. My advice at this point is never start a JD on blood worms at all >.< it'll take some time to get him off them.

Make sure to keep the nitrates lower than 20ppm to get better growth. I would strive for less than 10ppm if you have 0ppm of nitrate out of the tap.

I would stop feeding the bloodworms, it's already becoming a picky eater. The NLS pellets provides the jd with the nutrition that it needs.

How long of a fast? How big is the ebjd? What size are the pellets? What is the temp of the tank?

I found mine to be very moody in what it eats, but I got it feeding on hikari cichlid pellets eventually.

I must have gotten lucky with mine, he eats NLS flakes from between my fingers. He occasionally takes Thera-A 1mm pellets. Of course he smashes frozen bloodworms and mysis shrimp. He'll chomp on the NLS algaemax tablets I put in for the albino bristlenose pleco.
