He's about 4in, the pellets are the sinking 3mm nls large fish formula, tanks about 78-82 degrees

Try a smaller 1 or 2mm pellet, still too small and young for that big of a pellet. If he is eating two of those a couple times a day that's actually pretty good
Had same thing with my little 4.5 inch gt. He all of a sudden just stopped going anywhere near his larger hikari bio gold and excel pellets, so started feeding him the 1mm discus bio gold and nls Thera a 1mm and he's back to an eating machine. Was very unusual I thought though after he'd been smashing the larger floating pellets for a few months.
Yeah, the 3mm sinking NLS are a bit much for a 4" fish. I would go down to 2 mm NLS. They will be easier to swallow without needing to be crushed.
