what do you feed your gars.

i feed mine guppies, ghost shirmps, and feeders. the LFS accidentally put like4 jumbo gold fishes about 3 inches, and my gar only being abgout 7 inches cant really fit in his mouth. On another note i started feeding the gold fish flakes just keep my gar with some companion, is that bad? i herd goldfish higher the ph on the water because of waste.?

you guys recomend or not? they have been there for like 3 months, and still eating.

I have feeders in my tank at all times, the Gars eat when they are hungry. Because of this I do weekly water changes or an extra water change if thePH is high, no biggie. If you are concerned of something like PH and waste just do more water changers and all will be good.
 
i've had my gar for about 2 months now and he is in with my clownknife I've been wanting to ween them off of feeders but i didn't know what all to try. this is my only tank with predetors that are on feeders all the others are on pellets thanx for all the info
 
So far I have fed mine non fancy guppies, baby Kois and Rosey Reds. I tried mealworms, krill, chunks of chicken meat..doesn't seem to have any chance at all.:( He has only been feeding live, even when I starved him. And when he gets live food, he eats like a pig, making sure his tummy is full all the time until there's nothing left.
 
Mine is starting to open up to more varied diet :) Still mainly woudl rather eat goldfish.. But Also downs frozen krill and brine as well... Even EATS it of the tank floor :)
 
mine eat hikari pellets, shrimp, krill, every kind of pellet. worms, cut up catfish nugget. they eat anything... and you can get them to eat what u want by holdin off for a few days on feeding them. there instints will kick in and could make them a bit agressive towards smaller fish tho so be careful.
 
I feed my gars smaal flys because they did not eat anythings.you can see in my mes.the mes name is(look my longnose gars eat fly in pictures)

LOL....do the same thing!!!!!!
Dmack's and My method are almost exactly the same and all my gars from 1 inch up eat prepared with no issues.

There is no need to starve them.
