i feed mine hikari gold (has done wonders for his colors) blood worms, brine and mysis shrimp, earthworms (which they will devour) and also algae tablets, he goes nuts over those for some reason. he (or she) has gone from 1.5 " to a little over 10" in about 16 months

Mussels prawns a lot of Lob worms (large night crawlers) as they are free
my mate picks me up about 50 a week when he walks his dogs. They also eat pellets O yes he eats algae tablets and catfish tablets on the way down he is now my mates fish and doing well well i had to give him somthing for helping me with the fish room

Hikari gold and nightcrawlers as a stable and hikari blood worms and beefhart to supplament.But here lately mine has had a taste for pleco 
they where tolerating a choclate pleco in there tank but they tore off his top fin and i moved the pleco to the qt tank i think it will grow back as the spines are still there
