It could depend on what "in aviation" means. I met a guy who paints racers.

He's in aviation.

I flew, dad was a radarman, mom was our ground support. Sis inspected USAF commissary.
We lived on a dozen airfields. We were all with it most of our lives. My uncles served too, as air corps ground crew.

But I was the only pro artist in the family and the only one to actually fly any aircraft. My eyes were too poor to be a pro pilot though. I was in a Piper Cherokee flying club. Later a Bellanca Super D, same club.

Anyhow I think those two things go together just fine.

I am a sales rep for an electrical cable company. Up until 2 weeks ago I travelled all around the state visiting customers and trying to hustle some sales. Now even though we aren't in full lockdown no customer wants a sales rep potentially closing down their business if they are infected so am now trying to do it all by phone and email while at home and at the same time keep the bosses happy and calm. Theres 4 of us reps in this state and we are starting to wonder how long management will continue to pay us if sales suddenly drop or their suspicions that we are kicking back when we should be working get out of hand.

I've plotted lots of charts for lots of purposes. Flying I often wound up in the second seat, navigating.
I didn't like navigating in-flight. Charting was a joy.

Also I have written a "historical comedy" about motorcycling, and I painted a number of skateboards.

Haven't painted on canvas for 40 years though. I tought my sister the rudiments, and she still does it.
Working in a lab by day, artist by night.

Anyhow, I have found lots of folks working in technical jobs choose art or music as a hobby.

interesting thread, very diverse group of fishkeepers here!
I do project management in the development industry, building and managing mostly residential buildings in NYC and NJ. But I am unemployed at the moment, I was looking for a new job when the pandemic hit and now everything is on hold. I had some leads which I hope will still be possible to pursue after this is all over.

As engineers, we worked for some notable local California developers who never paid us, ran pyramid schemes, screwed everyone with wild speculation, and a couple even wound up in prison. (We never got restitution from those reprobates.)

Yet I can barely imagine the pitfalls of working in The City.
I only lived there as a young child, and was truly spared any bad memories of New York.
Only snow play and dock fishing.

My most interesting work project was plotting a flight path for the first helicopter routes in the U.S. from DC to New York, TK502 and TK504.

OMG . . .DC? . . . no we don't have that kind of traffic where I live.
I think I'd hate to fly along the East coast.

Actually I studiously avoided the SoCal/Frisco/Sacto regions too.
John Wayne was about the worst I had to fly to.
It was easier in a craft like the Citation which climbs like a rocket.
In a Cherokee you have a lot less latitude.

But I haven't been up since my flying partners got too old and we disbanded.
Here, we fly 58 Romeo into Reno for the air races.

Ol' Romeo is ancient history now. Sold and gone elsewhere.
Too high above the clouds to continue climbing, we have to dive thru and fly thru the canyon below.

Boring white collar office worker here. Sadly I am under utilized as my masters in industrial organizational psychology would have a greater impact on the company I work for.

Oh well.
