My very first 10 foot x 3 foot x 3 foot tank was too big to get through the door so I removed part of the roof and craned it in. It was fairly straightforward but I don't think I would do it again. I would dismantle it if I had to remove it.
Quite a few years ago, I lived in a high rise apartment on 7th foor. The tape measure told me the biggest tank that could fit inside the elevator was a 8 foot x 2 foot x 2 foot if tilted on one end. The stairwell was much too small.
So I bought an 8 x 2 X2 tank only to discover it was 8mm too long. The elevator door couldn't close. I couldn't remove the ceiling. I couldn't over ride the door switch and operate it with open doors. I was so annoyed. I ended up buying 2 tanks each 6 X2 X2 and butt joined them together to make a 12 footer by removing one end from each. I got used to the vertical seam quite easily.
