Just curious why you cut your mysis shrimp. Aren't they small already or are there large ones I don't know about?

Nah, I get the big sheets and I just cut a piece off of it. But I do also have a pair of scissors for when after I put it on the plate and thaw it...I can cut it into smaller pieces so it makes it easier for the skunk botia's and rams in my 29 eat them and my little convictxtexas hybrid fry.

Thank-you all for replying.
my temp is at 79-82. I do 30% wc on wed and sat a 50% wc. I was under the impression that blackworms, freeze dried things, earthworm, crickets, shrimps and everything else was consider as a treat but it seem you guys feed it as a stable deit. Fishes in question are O, JD, Sal, and another O. Catfishes grow fairly fast because they always stuff themself. I had the CA cichlids for about 10 months now, but the other O is just 2 months old. The original sizes were (1) O 3 in, JD 2-3in, sal 2-3in, (2) O 3 in. Now they are 7 in, 3 in, 4in, and 3 in. I know JD and sal growth are slow but mine seems to be slower than every1 elses. Same goes with the O's( 1 in per month rule?).

You're right about the Salvinis and Dempseys growing at a slower rate. You may want to bump up the temp just a tinge to help their metabolism. Sounds like you have one O that's being a little piggy and growing faster due to his taking a greater share at feeding time. If possible, you may have to separate him (separate tank/divider) in order to let the other fish have a shot at more food.

I've found that feeding two to three times daily has worked well with my cichlids. I keep the tanks at ~85 deg. F. A combination of Hikari Bio Gold and freeze dried shrimp and krill has really seemed to work well. Even the GT I bought about 3 weeks ago has nearly doubled in size. Every other GT I ever had was very slow growing.

Trying different combos and feeding schedules will give you the results you're looking for. Be a scientist. Experiment a little.

...I feed them 5-6 times a day but with little amounts of food.
I give them beef-heart, chironomus, brine shrimp, JBL cichlid pellet,Tetra Koi pellet, gammarus,Sera vitoformo tabs, and occasionaly fruit or zucchini.

I pump up temperature at 82 (30 celsius degrees)

I do two 35% wc weekly on all tanks, besides one 50% a week on my 29. Like Hawk Fish said my fish just bulk up incredibly on that diet and I do use crickets and redworms for my guys at their size, eventually it will be nightcrawlers. But try adding a little meatier foods into their diet once a day and feeding them pellet type food twice a day along with the once a day treat. Now one day of the week usually weds. or sun. I don't feed them anything meaty. I've found by doing this they are more open to different foods and accept them more readily it also keeps them from not wanting to eat pellets anymore and decide to just eat meat. Hope this helps some more.
Added: I also run my tanks at around 85 most are at 84.5 right now as I have digital thermometers.

my GT grew from 1.5" when i got him end of october 07 and he was around the 6.5" mark when he got a new home last month. so that was roughly 1" per month. i fed 3-4 times daily: morning with quality pellet (tetra prima), afternoon more prima, then evening frozen bloodworm or crickets and every 2 days he would get tetra pleco wafers an hour before lights out.
water changes once a week of about 40% with treated tap water. ph was around 8 then we moved and its now about 7.7-7.9, temp was 25 degrees C.
absolutely NO FEEDERS i was advised as it can increase aggression and introduce disease and it doesnt have all the needed vitamins and minerals.
he ended up growing fast then his length slowed and he bulked up instead to around 5 times his original width. nice and plump when he went.

my O has grown almost 5" in about 9 weeks. I feed him about 5 small meals a day. freezedried bloodworms, Oscar Grow, Hikari Gold, freeze dried river shrimp, cooked shrimp (when I eat seafood, I save a small amount for him), and I fed him a beefheart cube once a day for a month.
