I got an Ornate 9" (Measured today!) a Delhezi (Almost 7") and a senegal (9inches) I plan on adding more bichirs they are kept in a 90 gallon with tons and tons of filtration and UV power. I really want a fish to swim around the middle to top what do you guys suggest an Oscar maybe? Something that wont fin nip or be a punk to the bichirs is what im looking for I had to move my livingstonni which I love to another tank for fin nipping and picking on the bichirs.

i say a payara like a scomb or just smaller species or a breed of gar maybe?

A scomb would be as good as food for the bichirs becasue of their skitish movement that the bichir are attracted to. Also they don't grow as big as the tat and armatus. If you want a paraya, a tat would be a good choice.

Gar would also be good, but stay awal from gator gar as they grow big and might eat the bichirs.

Lungfish is also a good choice, but stay away from any African species as they are unpredictable and might kill the bichirs or take a chunk of meat out.

There are plenty to choose from. Just make sure it won't eat or stress out the bichirs, or vise versa. Then you're good to go.

A lungfish would be sweet. I would get a gar but the needlenose I had only ate live food and I despise of feeders now. Tough decision what about some kind of south american cichlid with personality?

I keep gars and a dat with my bichirs. I also have a vatf and tat growing out to put in with them but I am not sure how they will wil the gars as the gars seem to be attracted to silvery fish. I have had no problems getting my florida gars to eat pellets. They eat anything that floats or sinks.

well i kept a scomb with my 3 birchirs in a 55g for several months and never had a problem they actually hungout sometime the payara would get real low with him and chill! but thats just something i wanted to add...

along with the fact he said the fish where in a 90Gallon i was just stating about a scomb because the tat and armatus would eventually outgrow the tank. i believe the tat will, havent owned one so i havent done much research yet but i think they may get to like 24" possibly.

Mine is in a tank with 7 juvie Archerfish.
archers are brackish so i wouldn't advice going with them and bichirs together

To each their own I guess... they are doing great anyway

its not really an opinion, archer fish are brackish. bichirs are not. the rest is up to you
