What do you guys think about a "fish room"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you enjoy being able to see fish in most rooms of your house, moving them to a fishroom would be a bad idea, however, having a fish room also may not be.
Why do you want the extra tanks? Most of the time it is for breeding. You'll need to sum up what fish you want and why you want them.
I've got a 5x2x2 in my bedroom (will be replacing the 4x15"x18" shortly) and a 6ft tank downstairs in the dining room, plus 2 other smaller tanks setup. I could have them in the garage and set it up as a fish room, and then use the other dozen or so tanks I have, but I chose to have a couple of nice display tanks rather than a heap of tanks tucked away.

If you enjoy having them in the house, leave them where they are!
If you can handle the extra workload of a fishroom, then go for it! and just leave the few display tanks through your house.

It's like you read my mind. I have a nice 75 gallon show tank in the living room. Stand, canopy, live plants and pretty fish. Yippee Skippee! Go down the basement and its a different story. 2- 180 gallon tanks, a 125, bunch of 20's, 40 breeders, 10's, 5.5's and even 2.5's. Nothing has to be super pretty and I can spill water on the floor, keep live worms in the spare fridge, burp, fart and drink beer while doing what I like to do, and as far as the wife is concerened, out of sight, out of mind. She still does complain about how much stuff costs, but when she spends $60 getting her toenails done, she has no room to complain.
Well said Joey.

Can I get a HELL YEAH :headbang2:cheers:

I'm not making a fish room, I'm making a fish lounge, with 3 180x75x60cm tanks end to end for the ultimate widescreen! Long term plan is for those tanks, plus maybe one or two smaller ones, couches, and a well stocked bar fridge.
That said I still like the idea of putting a tank in the lounge in the house as 98% of television is rubbish...

All my tanks are in the lounge/rumpus room but im lucky enough to have a massive room with a concrete floor it looks pretty mad ive got 3x 3x18x18 a 5x2x18 & a 1x8x18 plus a widescreen TV so pretty well everywhere u look there is glass and fish :D :headbang2

I have a "mini" fishroom that has 3 tanks in it. and (as of yesterday) i have 2 'show' tanks in my house.

I started the fish room for efficiency, but its turned out to be really nice because I can keep lots of fish as "stock" for when I decide to switch around one of the show tanks. If I decide to take the cichlids out of my living room tank, I can put them in the fishroom and swap out the school of tinfoil barbs. The main reason I keep the setup is my tank OCD.. My favorite part of a new tank is the setup. After maybe a year I get bored and want to change it all around.

I would love a fish room.:hearts: I have 3 tanks scattered around the house and it is a real mess when it comes time to do water changes or plant maintenance. I really like the idea of having a show tank and then have the other tanks together in a separate room.

For me, the fishroom would be a place to make maintenance easier. With all the tanks in one room, I could set up a drip system (no more water changes, hallelujah!) and connect all the drains to one drain. Feeding is easy, cuz they're all in one place.

However, I like having tanks spread around the house. Right now my living room is technically my fishroom, since I have 5 tanks set up in there at the moment (2x125g, 1x90g, 1x20g, 1x10g).
