I wanted a tessalata eel...was planning on growing him in the 125g...and then giving him to an LFS for store credit when he got too monsterous.

Now I have a chance to get a smaller eel I might be able to house quasi-permanently in this tank.

Any thoughts?

My only concern is that he is a 10" eel. All the other fish are under four: 3" 2" 1".

I want to buy this fish, but I know that he will just snack my harlequin. Bugger.

I have no first hand experiance but I can offer some of my reseach that I've done.

Funny you should be posting this question today. I was looking into a lot of different Eels last night thinking about my own long term stocking plan. I didn't really look into the tessalata eel as I have read some info they can be far too aggressive and hard on corals (knocking them over and such).

Have you considered a Spotted Garden Eel, Hass' Garden Eel ? They are said to be one of the more peaceful eels and are listed as reef safe. I'm seriouly thinking about this little guy for my 90 gallon, but I still need to look into compatability with my planned CUC.

yea mostly any moray requires a lot of caution in a community reef tank (since they prey on small reef fish). Almost anything that will fit in their mouths is fair game (and they can open wide!). Large angels and the sort are the only ones i'd feel safe having this dude with.

just go for it fleshy! i would think as long as you have alot of live rock and room for the fish to get away your good. tusks are pretty quick. but idk about teselatas i have a snow flake and he can barely catch pepermint shrimp lol

Guys, the tank is my pred reef, so fish being reef safe is not a concern. We are planning on loosing/replacing inverts. Fish will fight.

I just dont wanna stock this guy and loose the tusk.

Unfortunately for now I guess it will get put at the end of the line. I will add all the other fish before the eel, sump, and upgrade skimmers before I purchase the eel. Hopefully by then the other kids will be a little bigger.

But saw this guy today and fell in love with him. Cool eel, here that they arent too commmon.

yea eels are a pretty big load on your system. i dont feed mine much and his turds are huge.

Last fish in the tank. Got an angel and a dragon wrasse coming before than happens. At least one of the two in the next two weeks...so stay tuned. Thanks everyone.

1st: its a rip off, same thing is $34 at one of my most expensive lfs
2nd: they're piscivorous, say bye bye to 2" and under fish, possibly the 3 incher too
