I rarely see bigger tanks than 125 on craigslist here so this really got my attention. I have NEVER seen a tank for sale in Colorado posted on MFK. If any of you could help me out with some links or people you know that could possibly build one or is selling one that is anywhere between 180 and 200 gal for less that would be much appreciated!
Have you considered looking outside of Denver Colorado, in a neighboring state close to Denver? It soesn't hurt to try. If you purchase this tank for $850, you'd be paying around $4.74 per gallon. As it was suggested earlier, get the owner to drop his price to around $325 or less. Make sure of the construction of the interior framing of the stand. If it's made of 2 x 2's or smaller, it's not a safe bet the stand will support the tank. It's usually 2 x 4's or better for that size of tank. Your'e looking at supporting at least 3,000 lbs easy with a tank of 170 gallons. Also check to make sure it's glued and screwed. If not my friend, you might get screwed yourself.
Bottom line . . . I'd keep looking.
Look in your area for acryllic and/or glass aquarium fabricators. Ask around at local glass shops where there may be one located. You might be surprized what you may find. Just be determined and dilligent to find a better tank at a better price. There out there. Just don't spend your time chasing this advertised fish tale/tail.
