stand should hold, plus it has a center post so it wont bend at the middle. My 250g (80 x 26 x 28)is on metal stand using 2 x 2 x 1/4 angle bar with no center post and it bent about 5 cm in the middle, the contractor is coming next week to add a center post.

It's amazing what little can hold up the weight of a tank. I personally won't buy a stand like that I would be paranoid that a leg would bend and tank collapse They are usually made of real thin angle iron too. If it was made from 2x2x1/4" angle I would trust it.

I'd be paranoid about the indentations made on my floor from those four points, would definitely need some sort of reinforced base underneath if you wanted to avoid damage.

Thanks for the input everyone, pics may not be doing justice. I'll have to just get my lazy butt over there and see it in person. I mean they wouldn't sell it if it wasn't stable right lol...

Why wouldn't an iron stand work? I have all my tanks on iron stands. I mean its welded iron! I guess if it wasn't built right from good metal, but i'd take iron over wood any day of the week.

Partially a matter of load bearing capacity and for that type of stand in particular it is a matter of pounds per square inch. With angel iron and four points of contact you have well over 1400 pounds per square inch on the contact points. The load bearing capacity of wood can exceed iron by about any factor you want with proper construction. The type of stand I build would have less than 20 pounds per square inch of load transferred to the floor. I have never had a problem with one of my stands warping, twisting, damaging the floor, or failing me in any kind of way. I built one for a 600g tank that transferred less than 30 pounds per square inch.

I had a 75g on an iron stand. The center of the stand bowed downwards and caused the bottom seam of the tank to blow out.

I have a few iron stands and I like them. For a 180 I think it should have 6 legs. I'd buy it and weld in a couple extra verticle supports and I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

another vote for steel over wood any day of the week.

stronger, won't warp, resists water better.

will outlast the tank.

I don't think people realize just how strong steel is.

I have my 150g tank on a 1.5" tube steel stand. you could park a car on it.

I made 3" by 3" wood blocks for the feet to distribute the point load on the floor.

but its in my basement so its ok lol
