I either catch small fish by hand,or hook small 21/2 to 31/2 bluegill using meat bread or pieces of beat up plastic worms,I usually use the same hook to catch the bait as when I use the bait to catch other huge critters.
Let me know if you need any. They are pretty niceI would also keep a bunch of those red devs and mollies to sale.
Nothing more relaxing than a summer day at the local lake and creek casting dries and nymphs in shallow gin clear water for Sunnies, Crappie, LMBs, Creek Chubs, and Bullheads. Especially when you can get 30-100 fish days. Only a few months away from that!I would just get a big wide-mouth butterfly net and start scooping through big schools of fish. Your best bet is to do what I do when our little feeder-streams dry up and leave nothing but a few of the deepest holes with water and just target those spots w/ big nets or UL rod and reels. Nets will get you more if they in bunches and schools, but if they are spread out, you might have to have a little patience and use the ol' hook and line.
Before you do any of that, I would find a good secluded spot and set out a minnow-trap w/ various baits in it so you can triple your efficiency - the trap works on it's so you can go off and do your thing.
If I were you, I would try and keep some of the cichlids and live-bearers to sell them - i'm sure they have some WC-features hobbyists might find favorable over tank-bred fish
I don't take pics of my bait LOL But we use rod and reel for the Sunfish, Creek Chubs, Shiners, Bullheads and other baitfish typically 3" and up that we use to catch Flatheads and other Big Game.
divemaster99 gets those same fish on Fly-tackle
Nowadays I'm typically fishing from a kayak , hard to keep anything larger alive. I have owned few boats over time but dont have the time to run them regularly and my father had boats growing up until the early 90's. Did alot of ika(squid)/shibi(tuna) fishing off the east side of Kaua'i as a kid where you hang lights to attract squid, that was always my favorite. I use to work on charter boats out of Lahaina Harbor for most of my 20's and have caught about many blue marlin as I care to. I do manage to catch come pelagics off the yak but mostly target ono and bottom fish.Youre bait could be used to catch the bait that I will use to catch the bait Id ultimately use....
Nothing beats a bonita or small tuna for MONSTER pelagics and jacks!
Lucky! I do yak fishing myself, even managed a few sails which is awesome considering youve got to run about 50 miles to get to 700ft+ of water! For what ever reason, when conditions are right, we will get sails, dolphin (mahi mahi) and blackfin tuna up on the beach, Ive caught sails in 15ft of water just passed the sandbar! But we do have some great bottom fishing here pretty close!Nowadays I'm typically fishing from a kayak , hard to keep anything larger alive.
