what kind of fish do you have? If you have SA/CA cichlids then 6.5 is fine for example. Drift wood should lower the ph. Limestone and Crushed coral should buffer it up.
I, personally don't like crushed coral. It takes too long to raise pH, it's hard to get the amount needed right and every time you change your water you're going to have a pH fluctuation and then it'll take time to get back up to where you want it. I use baking soda to raise my KH which automatically raises and HOLDS the pH where I want it. My tanks are much more stable since I've started doing this and it keeps my pH up around 7.2, where your beneficial bacteria are the most effective. You can use the calculator on this site to determine how much baking soda to use. http://www.dataguru.org/misc/aquarium/CalKH.asp?Gallons=180&KH=70&measure=1&Baking+Soda+%28Teaspoons%29=13.61&SKH=10&EKH=80&pHChange=0.00
I think I will at least try crushed coral and yes I just want to maintain the PH at around 7.2 or so. This tank will only be running liek another 6-8 weeks and the new tank will def have a drip system
