so don't get two 300w heaters? get a 250 and 300 instead? anyone know why? btw, thanks stingraybob, cool avatar,........... made me laugh

Summer is around the corner man. You won't be needing heaters very much down here in soCal. Honestly I would go with two 300w heaters.

It's been years since I even looked at my heater, so not 100% what wattage or brand it is. But If I had to guess, I'd say its a Marineland 300W (heating my 125g by itself). I never really monitored my temperature until recently (planning on getting cichla in a month or so, and wanted to make sure water would stay warm enough). Tank temperature stays about 83-84 degrees fahrenheit. It runs alot though, and probably is why my utility bill kills me everytime I open it....but then, Tallahassee has the highest utility rates in the state so its hard to say.

thanks guys, for now mabye i'll just get a 300 watt and maybe add a second one in september or something

What temp do you plan to keep your tank at? 1 300w for a 180g seems kinda low.

Sounds like the other guy went with a 300 and 250 just because his local fish store didn't have 2 300s in stock.
