What temp do you plan to keep your tank at? 1 300w for a 180g seems kinda low.

Sounds like the other guy went with a 300 and 250 just because his local fish store didn't have 2 300s in stock.

your exactly right, i would have bought 2 300 watt heater but they had 1 250 and 1 300, if i were you i would buy 2 300 watt heaters and put one on each side of the tank to heat evenly...sounds like i know what im talkin about huh...

i want to keep the water at about 82-84 and i figured for the summer i won't need a strong heater nor would i need 2 heaters. so i was thinking about getting one for now until summer is over.

No heaters on my 150. I keep a 400w and 300w around in case of emergency.

i use two 150 wtts in my 180 and the temp is set at 78 w/out a problem
i keep one in my sump which does 90 % of the work and i keep one in the tank that only kicks on once in a blue moon. with the constant flow in the sump you dont need that many watts

I run 3 200w whisper heaters in my 180....turned up all the way, the tank reaches 82f max

i have 2 400watt heaters in my 210 one on each side keeps my water at about 88 with no problem just gotta turn them down since its getting warmer out
