I've been playing with the idea of keep some vieja as of late, and I wanted to know what fish everyone on the form keep their vieja with.
Tank size and gratuitous shots are greatly encouraged :D

I don't have a camera so no pix....

I have; 1 Vieja Bifasciatus, Guttulatas, Synspilum, Fenestratus, Red tail black shark, Midas, Pearsei, Lyonsi, Lrg Frontosa, Syno Cat, and a Med Jack Dempsey.

All of them are together in my 150g... Only bad thing is I love them all but I know when they get big they will need to find new homes.... Unless i get another set up.

Id love to get an Argentea, and a Maculicauda. The Mac is soooo mean that I doubt I will ever be able.

Vieja is probably one of my favorite Genus... LOL

Depends on what vieja. Regani are quite peaceful and can't hang with more aggressive fish, while maculicauda are downright nasty, and then there is everything in between.

My primary interests now are bifa's, argentea, regani, and synspi. I'm curious what people are stocking both within and beyond the genus.

I had a hartwegii with my bifa and had to give it away because my bifa was about to beat it down, imo conspecifics will always be a problem with them unless you have a huge tank with plenty of other aggro dithers. He's currently living with a JD, a lucostica, and a lysonsi. My lucostica is down right mean and actually will head butt the bifa but I definitely wouldn't recommend any of the earth eater species as they are usually very peaceful. Also depends on what size tank you have but they can usually roll with the heavy hitters (parachromis, amphs, etc). Post some pics of your viejas/paratheraps.

The regani will not fare well with the others. The rest are all about the same aggression wise. They'd be fine in a large enough tank.

I have a 6" synspilum in a 55g with the following:

8-9" male Midas
6" male Carpintis
6" Mota
4x 2-3" male marble Convicts
5" Raphael catfish

Midas is dominant fish so he just keeps everyone in check. No damage fins or anything but that might change when I move at the end of this month and have to reintroduce them all over again.
