Amazing pups! After looking closely at the pictures, I wasn't convinced they were hybrids:) Just stunning hystrix. How about soem pics of the parents? Any idea how long she was pregnant?

the title made me think they were a mix of some sort.

very nice richard. the one on the left does almost have a regular spot pattern though. the thread makes me wonder what a hystrix x mini marble would actually look like though !

Hi Richard. They are incredible. Do you remember the hystrix pups Lee had not long before he sold up? They had really intense markings also but different to yours, not such fantastic defined spots.
So are these F1 or F2 or?

The reason I used this title was because a friend of mine that regularly contributes to this forum thought they were hybrids, It did actually say on my email to him that they were Hystrix, he obviously never saw it. This got me thinking, I wonder if anyone else would think they are hybrids, this thread confirms that many of you did. I have to confess I too think the intricate pattern on these is very different to the norm, in particular with one of them. The mother is only a small girl of approx 10" and the male is tiny, 7" disc, he might be small but he is a real randy little devil. There are 3 females in the tank and 2 males, no other species are present so there is no doubt to the fact they are pure.

Thanks to all that contributed, I wasn't trying catch anyone out...well not much..LOL! I was more curious as to what you guys thought, a few of you lads have Hystrix yourself as I know, I'm sure the title had something to do with making your minds go into overdrive, so many hybrids about these days.

I never did read the "hystrix" title subject of your email...
I just flashed the pics on my smart phone ...

I dont think I've been more curious to see how a ray pup develops than these ones youve bred. Keep us updated

The parents of these 2 intricately patterned pups are nothing special to be perfectly honest Jason. I'm a big believer in breeding quality with quality to achieve greatness but have found with Hystrix that even the ugliest parents regularly throw interesting patterns.

Sorry I have no idea of the gestation period, I just noticed she was getting bigger one day, both parents were wild caught.

I do remember lee's yes, they were very nice! Lee had some nice rays, he is a very good aquarist generally, loves his Cichlids too. I was speaking to him not so long ago, I think he will be back into rays very soon, so hopefully we will see the return of..... LEEVAN!

As already mentioned the parents were wild caught.
