What do you think about this Inner DIY filter?.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually the bottom of the filter has some big holes drilled on it so water enters by the bottom aswell, however yor suggestion is good I had to find the way to rise the gravel as you said.

And filter do work pretty well, actually it is working as the only filter system for a 5" flower horn who is in a 55 gal, water is crystal clear.

Cheers.

You could cut a sponge to fit. Like an aqua clear one which would act like a prefilter. I did that with a much simpler pvc filter that has only two stages. It has a sponge filter and then some biomax. But i also have an aqua clear on the tank as well.

Hi.

Now I rearranged the filter media and it looks like this now!.

Filling goes as follows:

From bottom to top:

Volcanic porous gravel.

Floss.

Coral chunks.

Biomedia ceramic rings.

1400 lts/h powerhead attached at the top.

This filter is the only one filter system i a 55 gal with a 6 inches flowrehorn solo and has been working a treat!!!.

Tbh, I think if you made a DIY sump/overflow it would be much more effective than your DIY sponge filter. However, I must say thats pretty neat.

Guys I'd like to share with you that in order to get more filtering efficiency I added an aquaclear 70 to this tank.

I didnt want to be so "selfish" in providing more filtration to my tank, also fish gets bigger so my custom made could get a little short to meet its needs.

I think both systems are optimal for my solo FH.
