To start I would like to thank everyone for responding to my "green anaconda" thread.

However, their may be some slight changes in mind. I have a few options I want to go over with you guys and have a poll so its easy to see the results.

1. Male Green Anaconda:

Goods: Famous snake, beautifull colours, rare in captivity. Only gets around 9-12' long.

Bads: Very strong for size, hard to find one captive bred, typicaly more aggressive

2. Male Burmese Python:

Goods: Most are relativly friendly, only gets around 10-12' long(can someone tell me if thats correct) easy to find, inexpensive to purchase.

Bads: Extremly common... Like everyone has one of these.

3. Male Reticulated Python:

Goods: Uncommon in captivity(around here anyways) beautifull colours, unique skull structure.,

Bads: Crazy feeding responce, males can still get 16' long, more aggresive and unpredictable then burms.

4. Male African Rock Python:

Goods: Rare in captivity, unique colours, shouldn't get longer then the burm right?

Bads: Nasty temperment, might get to long, not to be trusted around family and friends.

I would like everyone to respond to this thread. Give me your constructive critisism and let's discuss this. I will be chosing one not by the amount of votes, but as the best snake for me. I want a snake that will get to around 10-13 feet long, something that can be tame so i can let my younger cousins hold it and i wont fear that it will kill them. Something I can take outside on a nice warm day amd wont try to rip me apart everyime I go into its cage. Caging isn't a problem, I like building them.

I have worked with larger snakes before and I have over 6 years of reptile experience, I know what kind of commitment I'm getting into here so their is no need to tell me that i shouldnt have one ;)

Thanks everyone :)

You have severely underestimated the size these snakes can reach. Burmese pythons can reach 20 feet, Reticulateds 30', Anacondas 20'+. Ever thought of jungle carpet pythons or rainbow boas?

The sizes you mentioned are somewhat accurate for FEMALES. I wouldn't think, and people will agree with me, that 30' is not an average for a reticulated python. What you said, they can ge that big. No doubt, I agree with you, but many are record cases that almost never occur twice.

I had carpets before.... Not only do they grow slow, they don't come knowhere near the size of a "big" snake.

As for the BRB, I still don't see that as a large snake comparison. Their nice and all, and I can take care of them, it's just I dont want to be constantly worry if like one thing goes wrong, the snake gets sick.

Thanks anyways.

(I should have added "other" to the poll...)

haha i personally would go for whatever you think is best for you. if its a green anaconda then there you go. if its a burmese python there you go too. lol i personally love the green anacondas.

Personally I'd get a retic, they have the best colors! Some burm morphs are really pretty as well. The retics have the nastiest teeth, very deep punctures.

Burmese "usually" have the best attitudes out of the bunch. Husbandry has to be good as they are suseptable to RI.

Rocks from what I here are usually mean as hell. But I have seen one nice one.

Anaconda is probably the hardest one to keep for husbandry wise. I have seen nice and docile ones. Better temperment then rocks.

Retics are hit and miss on personality. Can be fun to handle as they do not sit still. Very nice colors and also lots of morphs.

I would probably go with a burm. Some nice morphs: greens, granites, albino, ect.

You think of olive pythons, scrub pythons, womas, bloods (my favorite boid). All have good size to them. Just a fe more to throw in the pot.

The animal I will be buying will be the normal colours. I don't like all the morphs they have, IMO its ugly. I'm always good with the husbantry so their will be know worries with any snake on the list. I did watch a movie on youtube and they where handling a retic, it was all squirmy. I'm used to Burmese pythons being calm and slow. I'm leaning towards the burm, I just need someone to get back to me to make it a little more official.

I will be buying a female blood python to sometime in the near future. I wanted to get an olive but I got the cheap version insted, a Macklots python.

Retics imo have the best personality out of all of them it actually seem slike they are thinking aand no what you are doing. But they do get pretty large and are harder to handle then the others. I also really liek the burms very calm snake and easy to handle. I would probably go with the burm just b/c you dont want a giant and something squirmy.

red tailed boa!!! imo
