wow ridehard..like the tank.

im going to see how this goes and if the unpotted tank doesnt grow plants, ill switch to flourite or something. do you battle algae? do you do enough wc's to keep it at bay?[/QUOT

I'm not dealing with algae in my big tank pic1&2 because I have a school of Siamese Algae Eaters (a must for planted tanks), But my small tank I have been but I just use a double dose of Excel for 2 or 3 day and then in about a week the algae is gone.

i like the pots in that tank gives it a whole different look, my question is why did you stop there why not fill the whole back side with pots ? Can you explain in more detail what you used for substrate in the pots ?
I have a bout a 20 gallon cooler that i keep worms in in the summer its mostly buried to keep it cool i just buy about 12 dozen worms throw them in and throw in coffee grounds shredded newspaper and veggie scraps ive used the same soil for a couple years and i know the worm castings are great fertilizer ive considered using it for substrate in a tank but im sure i would have to deal with the cloudiness unless it was held in place.

Theres no reason you cant have a barebottom planted tank. I did it with my discus for a year while growing the out. I had anubias and java fern on some nice manzanita and a potted amazon sword. It looked really nice. Now if I could only find those pictures....

LOL i first looked at this and was like,"wtf is this dude smoking!" I showed my wife and she reminded me of my tank that i use as a QT/proprogating tank, for stuff I give away or sell. I take clippings and sort of plant them like that in a bare tank. So i shuldn'\t have lol'd at you, plus the more i look at it ,the more i say"hmm it;s kind of zen like in cool way". Rite on!

If you get some fertilizer and dose the water column, shove sme root tabs in the pots you'll be good to go! Funny thing is, i never thought to use clay pots, i use "plastic plant pots" like when you buy the plants. :)
