What do you think of fire eels?

Well I just went to my lfs and brought some a little pike. Changed my mind on the eel. Aro wad 30 but to small to put in grow out tank. The Ornant bichir was not in my price range so so seen some pike and brought one back.

An aro would get too big for your 125. Fire eels can be amazing fish. I helped me friend raise his from 5" to over a foot. He eats anything that goes in the tank. Very cool fish. I will be obtaining him soon for my 125.

My fire eel was actually my first fish and is now about 20cms, he was 25 nz dollars which is about 20 u.s. And they normally sell here for closer to 60 dollars. I can only feed him on bloodworms and won't touch the pellets I feed my cichlids. I also keep an ornate birchir and havnt had any problems. I have a uv filter and a canister filter going to make sure no parasites get onto his skin. I would highly recommend them to anyone with some experience.

They are very cool. If you want one get one! Just by your questions I know you will do the research needed to care for one. My only advice would to be to wait for the perfect one. The color and beauty can vary a lot. The good ones are incredible to look at.

as long as you have a tight fitting lid with ALL holes covered, no matter how small you should be fine...

I once had a fire eel jump out from the hole where my filter intake goes into the tank, and this eel wasn't a small thing either... so just be careful and cover all the holes into the tank for good measure...

When I move out and get a larger tank I will more than likely get one. Never owned one but if you search them on youtube there seem awesome. Like a dog almost with the handfeeding / petting.
