What do you think of my new tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Aggression can be an annoying thing at times...especially so in a 55gal tank....;)

If that floats your boat, go for it!! Just make sure you aren't afraid to explore other options as well!! ;)

i think you'd be surprised at how many grammodes might end up inside that 55 when all is said and done - maybe one big one or a pair
i think you're better off buying like 2-3 and grow them out. 6 would be a real stretch inside a 55 gallon. just because they grow really slowly compared to other cichlids doesn't mean it will be ok to stick so many of them in there. i think these guys eventually reach a a foot long or so in a couple of years time.
the bottle is errr... well not to my taste but to each their own. try some flowerpots maybe?
also i think that's java fern, no? if yes maybe you need to string them down more before they get sucked into the filters.

This was the advice given by a couple of breeders (big names). One said "stock with 6 and you'll end up with a pair", the other said "stock with 6, it'll even out the aggression". While both offer different reasons, they both say start with 6, so that's what I'm planning. It should take almost 5 years or so for them to reach a foot (from talking to several other keepers).

The plant on the driftwood is java moss. It's almost dead. It's been out of the water almost 3 months. I suspect it'll come back.

Thanks.:)

Maybe this will satisfy the bottle hating natural look lovers.:D ...

New shot with 7UP bottle removed and anubias added (with flash) I'm keeping the poison bottle though.

i would use fish line to tidy up the java moss give them something to grow on .. other than that, nice setup ..

Looking alot better now. I say put the moss on the rocks. Also add a little more scattered stones to the front of the tank to match up with the pile. With rocks it's either pile them or just scatter them around IMO.

Thanks e everybody.:)

LOL please yourself...in 30 years of fishkeeping I've learned that the fish dont really care. In nature they hang out around any man made object they can find. As far as a natural look goes....Just how natural IS a box of water when you think about it...LOL
