What do you think of Rena Filstar filters?

Hi! I just wanted to see people's opinions of them
I have a filstar xp2 on my 55 gallon tank and it is so noisy!!! It always makes noises and I have white paperish things coming out of it. I think it is a bad canister... what about you?

I have an xp3. Its dead quiet and Ive never had a problem with it.
I would definately buy another.

Thats interesting because from what I have heard from people, they can be really noisy like mine.

Also, if you check out their site, all the problems posted up are about noisy filter problems.

Try unplugging it wait then plugging it back in several times. Look for air coming back up the (edit) intake hose... trapped air will make it noisy.

I have a XP3 it is quiet, only prob i had was a bad conection one time and water was coming out of the power cord hole. My mistake.

I have 4 of them and don't care for any of them. They're messy to clean, ugly, the hoses never cooperate, they're way overrated on flow, and messy to clean.

Mine are quiet, I will give them that.

I like mine, but then I did just set it up this morning. I upgraded the media though. Still use the filstar foam pads but ditched the "bio chem" and added, Fluval prefilter ceramic rings, some established Ehfisubstrat(took a 1/3 from each of my eheims) and filler the rest with seachem's matrix. I even had room to put in 4 pot srubbies which I pulled from one of my wet/drys.

The problem I have with mine is that these paper pieces keep coming out of the output. I have absolutely no idea where they come from! I think its from the bio-chem zorb with the paperish bag but im not sure. I switched the paperishbag to fine mesh but these paper-toilet pieces keep coming out!

Do these papery pieces only come out when you turn the pump on and off? I noticed this with all canister filters, i think its just waste and debris trapped in the hoses.
