Do these papery pieces only come out when you turn the pump on and off? I noticed this with all canister filters, i think its just waste and debris trapped in the hoses.

Yes I think this is some kind build up on the internal walls of the hoses. Unfortunately even my two eheims do this. To avoid the mess I put a fine mess bag over the return tube during startup.

well i read through a bunch of threads on filters before i bought one. i was thinking of getting a rena xp3... for my 75g. than after readinf of how much of a PITA they are, i picked up a used eheim 2028 for 60 bux plush shipping. cant wait to get it and i have to get some media still though...

It is a very good filter for its price. I have two running for 300g myself.

Pros:

1. Build and Material quality: Its fit and finish are the best among all canister filters of its price range
2. Reduced noise
3. Large media space
4. Flow Rate
5. Media is included

Cons:

1. Will build air pockets
2. Some media bypass (I think the only filter that won't do this is Eheim classic series)
3. Whistling noise from the spraybar
4. Could be hard to prime after cleaning
5. You will need to supplement extra biological filter media to get it really working

How can you clean out the hoses? Do i have to disconnect everything?
Do i spray the inside parts of hoses with water?

mine is sooooo noisy its rite next to my bed and everynight i feel like turning it off lol i know theres air trapped in it but i cant get it out.what should i do?

My first Xp3 was noisy for a little while after I started it, but then I shook it while it was running and a bunch of air came out and it has been running fine ever since. No noise no problems. I open it every other month and clean it and that is it.

i have 2 on my 100g and runs very quietly. cleaning is simple too. just shut off by lifting up the quick disconnect and poor all the water out of the canister, change the foams, rinse the rings, fill up with tank water, iplug back in and its good to go. never had any problems priming it. it is still good for its price but ehiem is by far better but cost double the price. now comparing this with a fluval or a magnum, it is by far better.

Same here, it was pretty noisy for a day and I just shook the canister and the tubing and a whole bunch of air bubbles came out. After that it was fine. If that doesn't work, then I think you might have a motor problem...cause mine is quiet as a church mouse. Take it back and exchange it if that is the case.
